Seize the Day
Join the Epilepsy Foundation of Louisiana for its eighth annual run/walk at 7 a.m. on May 19 at the Old Front Nine course on the LSU campus. There's a 5K race, 2-mile walk and lots of children's activities, like face painting. The team that raises the most money wins a cruise for two. There's also a team T-shirt contest. Run Wild for St. Jude
You won't have to wonder "Where the Wild Things Are" on May 26. They'll be running through the streets of downtown Baton Rouge for the fourth annual "Run for the Children" to benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital. Join the fun - wear your best jungle or safari costume and try to win the prize - and get the whole family involved with either the 5K or 1-mile events that get started at 8 a.m. There will be live entertainment and food. Reserve your spot in one of the best tennis tournaments in Louisiana, the Baton Rouge Crawfish Classic Tennis Tournament benefiting Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. A chef in the making
Getting youngsters off on the right nutritional foot is the goal of the Southern University Ag Center's new cooking school C.H.E.F. -- Creating Healthy Enjoyable Foods. A session for youngsters ages 9 to 11 will be held July 9-13, with a second session July 23-27 for 12- to 14-year olds. The program, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., will be held on Southern's campus in Pinkie E. Thrift Hall and costs $15.
