Triathlon-A-Thon
Here’s a chance to try a triathlon without swimming a half mile, biking 12 miles and running a 5K. Take part in the YMCA’s Triathlon-A-Thon. You’ll get your feet wet and help the Y raise money.
WHAT: Triathlon-A-Thon for adults and youngsters. Adult events are a 300-yard swim, 15-minute bike spin and a 1-mile run. Youth (ages 12 and younger) events are a 100-yard swim, 10-minute bike spin and 1/2-mile run. Two or three participants also may team up in either category.
WHEN: 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Feb. 3.
WHERE: C.B. Pennington Jr. YMCA,
15550 Old Hammond Highway.
COST: $25 (cash or check) to be paid the
morning of the event.

Rouge-Orleans run
The 126.2-miles of the Rouge-Orleans run goes from, well, Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Do it solo or form a team to get this unique view of our state.
WHAT: 2013 Rouge-Orleans
WHEN: Feb. 8-10 (Mardi Gras weekend)
WHERE: Run starts in the Capital City and finishes in N.O.’s Audubon Park.

LAGNIAPPE: Participants will run on top of the levee, alongside historical plantations, sugarcane fields, swamps and the former leper colony at Carville for an unforgettable visual tour of Louisiana. Runners also get to experience the insanity of Mardi Gras, with several parades passing within walking distance of the start and finish lines.
Girls on the Run Baton Rouge, which emphasis self-respect and healthy living through running, is the partner charity for the event.
Wellness Day for Women
The topics are many and varied at this annual event, and it’s all free.
WHAT: 13th annual Irene W. Pennington Wellness Day for Women.
