The foundation for the Louisiana School for the Deaf is hosting this run to raise money and awareness of the school.

WHAT: 11th annual Dash for Deaf Kids, 1-mile and 5K runs.

WHEN: 8 a.m., Saturday, April 20.

WHERE: Louisiana School for the Deaf, 2888 Brightside Lane.


LAGNIAPPE: All proceeds from the race will go to benefit the students at LSD, specifically for the positive behavior reinforcement programs and the purchase of items and equipment for classrooms.

The Color Run

Are you ready for the craziest, most colorful 5K of your life? Then sign up.

WHAT: The Color Run 5K.

WHERE: Downtown Baton Rouge.


LAGNIAPPE: This event focuses less on speed and more on crazy color fun with friends and family. Wear a white shirt and at each kilometer of the event you’re blitzed with a natural and safe color. Participate as an individual or team.

River Road Run/Walk

Bring everyone for this family event.

WHAT: FCA Spike Spangler River Road 5K Run/Walk.

WHEN: 9 a.m. Saturday, April 20.

WHERE: Train Station Park & River Road, 198 E. Railroad Ave., Denham Springs.


LAGNIAPPE: This event takes you down scenic River Road and through the downtown Antiques Village. It’s a fundraiser for the ministries of Southeastern Louisiana Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Get Your Rear in Gear

Join this event to help fight colon cancer.

WHAT: Get Your Rear in Gear 5K Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run.

WHEN: 8:30 a.m., Saturday, April 27.

WHERE: Pennington Biomedical Research Center, 6400 Perkins Road


LAGNIAPPE: Run, walk, form a team or volunteer at this event. Funds raised will be used to increase awareness and help fight colon cancer.


The Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network is holding its 20–year celebration.

WHAT: LATAN’s 5K Run/Walk/Roll.

WHEN: 8 a.m., Saturday, May 11.

WHERE: Downtown Baton Rouge.


LAGNIAPPE: Wheelchair racers are invited to join in. LATAN assists individuals with disabilities to achieve greater independence through access to assistive technology. Stay around after the race for the Baton Rouge Greek Festival.

Red Bug Hill Challenge

Running, biking and the “challenge” are all part of this event.

WHAT: Red Bug Hill Challenge supporting those with Spina Bifida.

WHEN: Saturday, May 11.

WHERE: St. Francisville.


LAGNIAPPE: Event includes a 1-mile fun run and 5K trail run; and bike rides of 5, 20, 40 and 60 miles. The challenge involves a timed ride from the bottom of Red Bug Hill to the top.

McMains Run, Walk & Roll

For a good time and to provide help for a great community resource, come on down.

WHAT: McMains Children’s Developmental Center’s third annual Run, Walk & Roll.

WHEN: 8 a.m. Saturday, June 1.

WHERE: Downtown Baton Rouge.


LAGNIAPPE: Those in wheelchairs are urged to join the fun. The proceeds will go to support the therapy services at the center. Food and festivities will be in the North Boulevard Town Square.
